The second-and final session-of 2010 Class of Rogers Scholars arrived at The Center for Rural Development in Somerset on July 11 for another week of fun, adventure, and life-changing experiences.

During the week, 37 high school students from across Southern and Eastern Kentucky will grow their leadership and entrepreneurial skills as the region’s next generation of leaders.

Scholars will participate in leadership and team-building exercises, interact with some of the state’s top business and educational leaders, complete a community service project, and receive hands-on experience working with leading professionals in one of three declared majors: engineering, video production, and the newest offering, healthcare.

Rogers Scholars-The Center’s flagship youth program-emphasizes the development of technological skills and builds in participants a sense of leadership, an entrepreneurial spirit, and a commitment to rural Kentucky.

Parents can follow Scholars and view a photo directory of some of their activities by logging on Rogers Scholars’ website at www.rogersscholars.com.

On Monday, Scholars were scheduled to be at the Team Leadership Center in Wayne County to work on their leadership and team-building skills.

This summer, a record 73 high school students-all rising juniors-will graduate from The Center’s Rogers Scholars program and receive an offer of a college scholarship from 14 participating colleges and universities in Kentucky, and one university in Tennessee.

This is the largest class of Rogers Scholars in the history of the 12-year program.
